NOW HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

Moses was the meekest man in all the earth (Numbers 12:3).  So how is it that Moses was also the greatest “in all the signs and wonders which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and his servants, and to all his land, and in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses showed in the sight of all Israel” (Deut. 34:10-12)?

Meekness is not exactly a personality trait that people want in these days.  Not something to seek after.  And yet it is written, “Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness” (Zephaniah 2:3).   A meek person typically does not have a high approval rating with men; but does have a high approval rating with God.

The opposite of meekness is self-willed aggression.  A person who knows what they want, and gets what they want, even if it is at the expense of family, friends, and co-workers.

Political leaders often are bold, domineering, and threaten anyone who opposes them.  Moses was not like this, and yet the Pharaoh of Egypt bowed at Moses’ feet, and let his people go.

How did that happen?

It happened because the LORD knew Moses face to face.

“…But to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”  Isaiah 66:2
