Does God Have Thoughts About Me?

We have thoughts about everyone we know. We usually do not tell another person our thoughts, but we have them. Even if we see someone as we pass by them on the sidewalk, in only a split second we have thoughts about them.

So if I have thoughts about other people, does God have thoughts about me? And what are His thoughts about me?

In Psalm 139, David writes, “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! David was amazed that the Living God had thoughts about him. In fact, the LORD had thoughts about David long before David had any thoughts about being the king of Israel.

When our Lord knew that the blind man He had healed was cast out of the synagogue, Jesus went and found him. He had thoughts about him.

When our Lord heard that Jairus’ sick daughter had died, Jesus told the mourners that the girl was not dead but sleeping. He had thoughts about her, and about raising her from the dead.

When our Lord encountered the demoniac of Gadara who had a legion of devils in him, He had thoughts about the possessed man. Not just thoughts about his present condition, but of what he could become.

When the disciples were arguing about who would be greatest in the kingdom of heaven, our Lord had thoughts about them and they weren’t good thoughts. But Jesus used the occasion to teach them about true greatness.

The gospels are stories that tell us what Jesus thought about different kinds of people. And through those stores we can know what He thinks about us.
